About Us

DJ Saves the Day

DJ Cares is founded by mother Zhalena Mathis in Memory of Prince-Darrell “DJ” Carroll, taken by gun violence on June 16, 2023 in Seattle Washington. His murder is unsolved. DJ was a dad, son, brother, grandson, nephew, and be loved by many family and friends.

At DJ Cares, our mission is rooted in the urgent need to prevent gun violence and foster lasting change in communities disproportionately affected by it. We are a supportive and resource committed to creating safer, more resilient neighborhoods by addressing the root causes of violence through a comprehensive and compassionate approach.

Advocacy is at the heart of what we do. DJ Cares works closely with local leaders, policymakers, and grassroots coalitions to advocate for common-sense gun laws, increased funding for community-based interventions, and policies that support public safety without criminalizing vulnerable populations. Our goal is to influence systemic change while amplifying the voices of those most impacted by violence.
